ROCHESTER, New York – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team (2-0) defeated Cabrini (Pa.) University, 75-61, in the first round of the Chuck Resler Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester, inside the Louis Alexander Palestra arena. The Yellow Jackets play host UR, a 73-64 winner against Houghton (N.Y.) College, in the championship game at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 17.

Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) led BW with a team-high 17 points and backcourt mate and senior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds, blocked a shot and made three steals. Providing scoring off the bench was junior guard Zach Cebula (Brunswick), who had nine points on three-of-five shooting from three-point range. Junior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) had eight points and a team-leading rebounds. A key for BW was its bench which outscored Cabrini's backups, 26-15.

BW opened the game with a 28-10 run that was capped by a layup from senior guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion) with an assist by junior Academic All-OAC forward Jack Lostoski (Uniontown/ Lake). The Yellow Jackets shot 60% from the field in the first half (15-of-25) and led by a commanding 49-26 at the intermission.

Cabrini came out strong in the second half with a 25-9 run to trim the lead to seven points at 58-51 with 11:44 remaining. Cebula entered the game and immediately made his presence known with a crucial three-pointer that extended the lead back to double digits at 62-51. The Cavaliers got as close as seven points once more, at 64-57 with 8:82 left, but BW maintained its poise and rebuilt a 15-point bulge at 2:32 when Sova made a layup to seal the game.

Following its game versus the University of Rochester, BW return to Berea and opens its 2018-2019 home schedule with a game versus Thomas More (Ky.) College on Tuesday, November 20 at 7 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.
