No. 4 Baseball Falls to Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The No. 4 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Wittenberg University by a final score of 7-4 at the Carleton Davidson Stadium. 

BW (27-6) was led by senior All-Oho Athletic Conference first baseman Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) who went 2-for-4 at the dish with a two-run homer. Junior catcher Mark Mohnickey, Jr.(North Ridgeville/St. Edward) went 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run.

Scoring Plays

  • The Yellow Jackets got on the board with a deep solo home run to center off the bat of Mohnickey.
  • Wittenberg (26-6) tied things up in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from a junior outfielder Luke Thomas.
  • BW regained the lead with sophomore infielder Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) scoring on a throwing error from the shortstop.
  • Castillo extended the lead to 4-1 with a two-run home run deep into the trees in right field.
  • The Tigers got one run back in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI groundout from junior infielder Ian Ash.
  • Wittenberg got another run back in the eighth off an RBI double from sophomore infielder Ben Seibert to make it a 4-3 game.
  • The Tigers took the lead after a grand slam to left from pinch hitter Rocco Royer.

On the Mound

  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Seve Cantini (Roaming Shores/Jefferson Area) picked up his first start of the season going six innings allowing two runs on three hits, walking four and striking out a pair.
  • Junior All-OAC right-handed pitcher Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) came into relief and went one and a third innings allowing two runs on a hit and a walk.
  • Freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) went a third of an inning allowing three runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) closed out the final third of an inning striking out the only batter he faced.

Up Next

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, April 27th in Columbus for an OAC doubleheader against Capital University that was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 29th. The game will take place at Huntington Park with first pitch coming at 1:00 p.m.
