Five Yellow Jacket Spring Student-Athletes Earn OAC Weekly Honor

BEREA, Ohio -- Five Baldwin Wallace University spring sport student-athletes, baseball senior pitcher Cory Waite (Willoughby/South), men’s lacrosse sophomore attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine), women’s lacrosse freshman midfielder Sierra Thomas (Medina), women’s golf All-OAC senior player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) and women’s field All-American sophomore thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenston) all have been named as Ohio Athletic Conference Players of the Week.

Waite, who earns his first career weekly honor, silenced the Otterbein hitters as he pitched his first complete game in BW’s 3-0 second game victory against the Cardinals.   He pitched all nine innings and allowed just one hit and one walk with one strike.   Waite is a career-best 3-0 on the season with a career-low 2.51 earned run average.

The baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, April 8 when it travels to Wooster for a non-conference game at the College of Wooster at 4 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets then travel to University Heights for an OAC doubleheader against cross-town rival John Carroll at 1 p.m.
 
Carson earns his first career weekly accolade as he helped the Yellow Jackets to a 1-1 record last week with five goals and seven assists.  He had one assists in an 11-4 loss at St. Vincent (Pa.) College and followed it up with a career-high five goals and had a game-best six assists in a 17-9 victory at Calvin (Mich.) College.  Carson leads the team with 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 total points.

The men’s lacrosse team is back in action this Saturday, April 12 when it will travel to Wilmington for its first ever OAC game at 1 p.m.  The next home game is on Wednesday, April 12 when the team hosts Otterbein in an OAC game on the Tressel Field at 7:30 p.m.

Thomas garners her third career weekly honor as she helped BW extend their school-record winning streak to ninth straight games with 12 goals and two assists.   She tied her own school-record of six goals in two both games.  Thomas scored six goals and added two assists in a 19-2 victory against Hiram College and had six more in a 19-15 win against The College of Wooster.

The women’s lacrosse team is back on Saturday, April 12 when it plays its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference versus Wilmington College on the Tressel Field at 7 p.m.

Woolf earns her second career weekly honor after helping the Yellow Jackets to a second place finish at The College of Wooster Spring Invitational at the Mohican Hills Golf Course.  She fired rounds of 78 and 82 to finish with a two-round total of 160 to finish second of 56 golfers.  Woolf leads the team with an 83.38 average in seven tournaments.

The women’s golf team is back in action this weekend April 12-13 when it travels to Delaware to compete in the annual Laura Bump Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Gallavan takes home her second outdoor field weekly award of her career as she won two events at last weekend’s Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.   She won the shot put with a throw of 43 feet and 11.25 inches as well as the discus with a throw of 134'1".

The outdoor track and field teams are back in action this Saturday, April 12; when it travels back to Delaware compete in the annual All-Ohio Division III Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University at Sleby Field. Field events begin at 11 a.m.
