All-American Winters Earns Fifth Career OAC Outdoor Track Weekly Honor

BEREA, Ohio --  Baldwin Wallace University junior three-time Division III track and field All-American Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Winters, who earns her fifth career OAC outdoor track weekly, scored a school-record and Division III-leading 4,865 points and won four events individually as she captured the heptathlon title at the All-Ohio Combined Events Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in Mount Union Stadium.  Her 4,865 points broke the previous mark of 4,776 points held by BW Hall of Famer Sonya Ming in 1988.

Winters won the long jump ong jump with a leap of 18 feet and 9.25 inches (765 points), the 100-meter hurdles in 14.63 seconds (905 points), the high jump with a leap of 5'7.75" (879 points) and the the 200-meter dash in 25.36 seconds (854 points).  She was third in the 800-meter run in a career-best time of 2:35.37 (627 points), fourth in the shot put with a throw of 29'5.25" (462 points) and fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 80'4" (373 points).

In addition to winning the event, Winters had four results that place her in the top-seven nationally in Division III.  Her marks in the high jump and long jump ranks second while her times in the 100 hurdles and and 200-meter rank third and seventh, respectively.

The Yellow Jacket outdoor and track and field teams are back in action on Saturday, April 11 when they travel to Delaware to compete in the All-Ohio Division III Championships Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m.
