LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Emily Oliver was the only athlete from the Baldwin Wallace women's track and field team that competed today (Saturday, April 2) on day two of the Liberty University Collegiate Invitational at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex. The meet consisted of athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III.
In the heptathlon, Division III All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) placed sixth with 4,046 points. On the first day, she placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 26.50 seconds (754 points), third in the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 15.46 seconds (782 pts.), third in the shot put with a career-best outdoor throw of 32'4.25" (520 pts.) and tied for eighth in the high jump at 4'10.25" (599 points).
On the second day, she placed 14th in the long jump at 13'7" (340 pts.), 11th in the javelin with a throw of 72'8" (329 pts.) and won the 800-meter run in 2:27.72 (722 pts.). Her 4,046 points were 54 shy of a provisional qualifying standard.
A year ago, Oliver was a provisional qualifier for the 2010 NCAA national meet, but did not make the final cut.
The rest of the BW outdoor track & field team competed at the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet-East at Mount Union in Alliance.
Next Saturday, April 9, the BW women travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete at the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational Meet. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m. The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet takes place at Ohio Wesleyan University from May 26-28. A year ago, it was in Berea and the year prior at OAC-member Marietta College.
