BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team dropped their spring home opener to Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match by a score of 8-1. The match started at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts before being moved indoors due to court conditions after some rain.
With the defeat, BW moved to 3-10, 2-2 OAC and Ohio Northern increased their record to 15-5, 4-1 OAC.
Doubles (ONU 3-0)
- In the No. 1 spot, sophomore All-OAC performer Gabriela Heideman (Doylestown/Wadsworth) and Kierstyn Yates (Grafton/Midview) dropped to Olivia Kesner and Miranda Willis in a tight match by a score 8-7 (9-7 tiebreaker).
- At the No. 2 doubles, junior Academic All-OAC performer Lizzy Cole (Shaker Heights) and freshman Hanna LeMaster (Avon) fell to Regan Landis and Katie Curry by a score of 8-0.
- In the final doubles match, the freshmen pair of Mattie Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.) and Emma Trost (Norwalk) fell to Marisa Petrunich and Flo Sanchez by a score of 8-2.
Singles (ONU 8-1)
- In the No. 1 spot, Heideman scored the lone point for the Yellow Jackets with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kesner.
- Yates battled in the No. 2 spot but fell to Landis by scores of 6-3, 6-1.
- LeMaster dropped the No. 3 singles to Curry by scores of 6-1, 6-4.
- In the No. 4 spot, Cole fell to Willis 6-0, 6-2.
- At the No. 5 spot, Hicks fell to Katie O'Connell by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
- In the final match of the evening, Trost battles Julianne Sheldon and fell just short by scores of 6-1, 7-5.
BW returns to action on Saturday, April 23 as it hosts Marietta College in an OAC match at 1:00 p.m. on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
