
BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2015-16 season as they won an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet with Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
The BW women posted a 134-85 victory.
The women's squad was led by senior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon), senior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) and sophomore freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) all with two victories each.
Ashbaugh won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:18.65 and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.39. Fortune won both diving events with scores of 165.45 and 219.70, respectively. Miller posted wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:43.29 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:41.06.
In addition, freshman Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill. / Hinsdale South) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:11.98. Sophomores Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) and Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon) each notched runner-up finishes. Severns took second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:19.59 and Kortis was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:05.85.
The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South), Severns, Ashbaugh and Onchuck won in a time of 1:59.69. The 200-yard free relay team of Miller, freshman Mackenzie Biastre (Eden, N.Y.), Kortis and sophomore Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview) captured the victory in a time of 1:51.09.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, October 25 when they host a non-conference dual meet against Ohio Wesleyan University in the BW Natatorium at 12 p.m.
