BW Women Shut Out Wilmington, 3-0, Now 5-0 in OAC

WILMINGTON, Ohio --  The Badwin Wallace University women's soccer team shut out Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 3-0, Saturday evening at Williams Stadium.  With the win,  BW won its fifth straight OAC match, eight of their last nine overall and remained in first place in the league. 

In the first half, BW (9-6-1, 5-0 OAC) gained a 1-0 lead at the 14:08 mark against Wilmington (6-9, 0-5 OAC) when freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) scored her third goal this season via an assist from freshman midfielder Lauren Haynam (Minerva). The game remained 1-0 at halftime.  

In the second half, Schutz recorded her second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season at 47:30 to give the Yellow Jackets a comfortable 2-0 lead. Freshman defender Kori Miller (North Olmsted/ Parma Heights Holy Name) tallied her fourth assist this season.

BW's lead grew to 3-0 at 71:24 when junior forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) scored her fifth goal this season to seal the victory.

In goal, junior All-OAC netminder Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) saved three shots and earned her fifth shutout this season and 17th of her career. 

In a defensive matchup, BW and Wilmington each attempted five shots. BW led, 5-3, in shots on-goal, and each team attempted a corner kick.  

The Yellow Jackets are back in action for two home matches on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium beginning on Tuesday, October 21 as it hosts Cleveland cross-town OAC rival John Carroll at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, October 25 BW hosts Otterbein University at 7 p.m. on Seniors and Parents Night.
