ADA, Ohio-- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team tied Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Ohio Northern University, 1-1, on Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.

In the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net.  It was a tough defensive effort by both BW (9-7-3, 5-1-2 OAC) and ONU (9-6-2, 5-2-1 OAC) that resulted in a scoreless first half. Two-time OAC player-of- the-week goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) saw 12 shots and saved eight between the pipes.  The Polar Bears outshot the Yellow Jackets 12-5 and on goal favored ONU 8-3.

In the second half, ONU sophomore forward Shelby Stephens scored the first goal of the match at the 47:32 mark and her fifth of the season, as she beat her defender and netted the shot from the far right post.  BW would answer with a game tying and team leading eighth goal by junior midfielder/forward Alex Elliott (Blacklick/ IMG Academy) who knocked in a header off a corner kick from freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) at the 70:47 mark.  The assist from Schutz gives her nine assists on the season.  BW's defense kept ONU away from the net to keep the score tied at one at the end of regulation.

In the overtime session, both the Yellow Jackets and Polar Bears held strong on the defensive side of the ball to keep the score tied at one.  In the second and final overtime, both defenses held strong to keep it a 1-1 tie.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets attempted 11 shots near the net, including eight on goal and  Tallmadge saved 12 shots at the net in the game.

The Yellow Jackets will conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday, November, 1 as the team will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Capital University at 11 o'clock in the morning.  With a win against Capital, BW will lock up the two seed heading into the OAC Tournament.

The 2014 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with the semifinal matches set for Thursday, Nov 6, and the championship match is Saturday, Nov. 8.  Times are yet to be announced.
