BEREA, OHIO - Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team was defeated by visitor Grove City College of Pennsylvania, 4-1, today (Saturday, September 18, 2010) in a nonleague match on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 4-4 overall and next play on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when they travel to University Circle to play Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at Case Field at 7:30 p.m.
In the first half, Grove City opened the scoring at the 26:51 mark when junior forward Emily Hurley gave the Wolverines 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets then tied the contest at 1-1 when sophomore forward Angie Wigton (Worthington/ Christian) scored via an assist by junior midfielder Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/ New Albany) with 26 seconds remaining in the.
In the second half, GCC put the match out of reach as the Wolverines scored at the 48:56 mark when senior forward Hannah Yang beat the B-W defense to give Grove City the lead back at 2-1. Then a foul committed by B-W defender in the goal box gave Grove City a penalty kicked and senior MF Emily Ostlund scored to extend its lead to 3-1 at the 55:42 mark. The final goal of the match was scored six minutes later, at 61:11, when Hurley scored her second to make the final score 4-1 in favor of GCC.
The Wolverines outshot the Yellow Jackets, 22-14, and outcornered them, 3-2.
In net, B-W sophomore Tina Mathur (Mason) played all 90 minutes and made nine saves.
Following its match at CWRU, the Yellow Jackets are next in action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they host nonleague foe Westminser College of Pednnsylvania in a men's and women's doubleheader at Finnie Stadium. The men kick off at 1:00 p.m. and the women begin at 3:00 p.m.
