No. 18 Wrestlers Beat Muskingum, 41-6, for Third Straight Win

 BEREA, OHIO --  The 18th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team stayed undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference and beat rival Muskingum University, 41-6, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Highlighting the victory for BW was sophomore 184-pounder Gabe Mahaney (North Canton/ Green) who pinned his Fighting Muskie opponent in 2:58. The victory was the third straight for the Yellow Jackets, now 15-8 overall and 2-0 versus OAC foes. Muskingum dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-2 against OAC competition.

BW took a 4-0 lead after sophomore 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/ Green) won by a 10-2 major decision. Doyle improved to 13-11 overall and 2-0 against OAC foes. The Fighting Muskies cut the BW lead to 4-3 with a win at 133 pounds.

Forfeit victories for BW at 141 pounds by senior Jaleel Richardson (Copley) and sophomore R.J. Martin (Sunbury/ Big Walnut) gave the Jackets a 16-3 cushion. Richardson is 2-3 this season and 7-26 in his career, and Martin is 3-2 this season and 13-10 in his career.

The Yellow Jacket lead grew to 21-3 when freshman Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y./ Ithaca) won by technical fall, 16-0. Burke improved to 9-10 overall this season. Muskingum made it 21-6 with a decision at 165 pounds.

BW increased its lead to 26-6 when sophomore transfer 174-pounder Jimmy Sandlin (Carlisle) won by a 16-1 technical fall to improve to 7-2 in his first season as a Yellow Jacket. BW extended its lead to 32-6 when Mahaney gained his pin to improve to 7-4 this season and 16-13 in his career.

The lead became 38-6 when junior 197-pounder Tyler Keating (Fairview Park/ Fairview) won by forfeit to run his mark to 3-5 this season and 15-34 in his career. In the final match of the evening, BW sophomore 285-pounder Andrew Sierawski (Delaware/ Hayes) earned a 6-2 decision to make the final score 41-6. He improved to 1-1 this season and 16-10 in his career.

NOTE:  BW did not wrestle nine of its starters with only Doyle seeing action.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, January 29-30 when they travel to Wheaton, Illinois to compete at the Wheaton College Pete Wilson Invitational Tournament. Friday's action begins at 12 noon and Saturday starts at 10 a.m.
