Lairson and Smolik Tabbed as All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University junior guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) and sophomore guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) have been selected today (Wednesday, February 27, 2012) as All-Ohio Athletic Conference student-athletes.  Lairson was named to the first-team and Smolik garnered honorable mention honors.

Lairson
, a honorable mention selection as a sophomore, led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 11.0 points-per-game, in rebounding with a career-high 6.2  rpg. and in steals with 35.  She led the team in scoring in eight games and was the top rebounder in 13.  Lairson finished second on the squad with 28 three-pointers  She earned OAC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 4 for her efforts in a 74-71 upset of then No.19-ranked the University of Mount Union and a 59-51 win at Wilmington College.

In three seasons, Lairson has appeared in 78 games, including 70 starts, and averages 10.3 ppg. and 4.7 rpg. She has scored 804 points, grabbed 363 rebounds, made 94 steals, passed for 86 assists and blocked 51 shots.  Lairson needs 196 points in her senior campaign to become the 13th member of the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club. BW has compiled a 52-26 record during her career.

Smolik earned her first all-conference honor after finishing second on the team with 9.0 ppg. and third in rebounding with 4.5 rpg. She also earned OAC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 11 for her efforts in victories against Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 72-42, and Marietta College, 79-67. Smolik had her first career double-double versus Marietta on Feb. 9 as she scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. She is also an outstanding student who carries an 3.833 grade point average and she will earn Academic All-OAC honors.

In just two seasons, Smolik has appeared in 51 games with 25 starts and averages 7.6 ppg. and 3.3 rpg.  She has scored 387 points, grabbed 170 rebounds, dished out 37 assists and made 25 steals.  

This season, Lairson and Smolik helped the Yellow Jackets to 16-9 overall record, including ending the season on a season-high six-game winning streak.
