Softball Splits Pair with NCAA Division II Chaminade (Hawaii) in Spring Break Finale

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Baldwin Wallace University softball closed out its spring break trip as it split a pair of games with NCAA Division II Chaminade University on Silversword Field at the Sand Island Park.

In game one, BW (3-5) scored four runs on 11 hits as it plated two runs in the third, one in the fifth and the game-winning run in the eighth on the double by sophomore designated player Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame).  Chaminade (9-11) scored three runs on three hits as it pushed all three runs across the plate in the third. 

At the Plate

  • Freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 3-for-4 with the game scoring the run
  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted-in (RBIs) and one run scored
  • Junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-4 with a double
  • Frederickson went 2-for-4 with a double and the game-winning RBI 

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her third game of the season as she allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks in her second straight career-high tying eight inning pitched

In game two, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless on five hits. The Silverswords scored eight runs on 12 hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first, three in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth 

At the Plate

  • Freshman center fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) went 3-for-3 with a double
  • Freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-3

In the Circle

  • Sophomore righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) took the loss as she allowed five runs on six hits with one walk in two innings pitched
  • Senior right-hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits with one strikeout and four walks 

BW is back in action on Tuesday, March 14 when it hosts its home opener against NAIA Shawnee State University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.  Game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. with game two slated to begin at 5 p.m.
