Softball Wins Sixth Straight Game, Takes Two at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team won it sixth straight game as it won both games of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against John Carroll University on Bracken Field.

In its first extra inning game of the year, BW (13-7, 11-7 OAC) took the opener by a score of 4-3 in 10 innings.  The Yellow Jackets earned its third straight sweep as it won the second game by a final score of 6-0.  John Carroll (4-15, 4-13 OAC) has now lost nine straight games.

In game one, BW scored four runs on four runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the first, tied the game in the sixth on the solo home run by freshman catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and scored two runs in the 10th. The Blue Streaks scored three runs on six hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the third and one in the 10th.

The Yellow Jackets were led at the plate by junior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban)  as she went 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted-in (RBI). Five other BW batters had a base knock.

In the circle, junior right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, picked up her league leading ninth victory as she pitched a career-high 10 innings.  Camarati allowed four runs on six hits with a career-best tying 15 strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, BW scored six runs on eight hits as it plated two runs in the first and four in the fourth.   John Carroll was shutout for the fifth time this season, including the second time by the Yellow Jackets, on six hits.  

BW was led at the plate by freshman shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base.  Sophomore left fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) as she went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

In the circle, junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) picked up her third win and first complete game of the season and her third career shutout.  Welling did not allow a run on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

BW is back in action on Sunday, April 11 in the OAC weekend series finale against John Carroll on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
