Four Student Athletes Named Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- Four members of the Baldwin-Wallace College cross country and track and field teams, including two men and two women, have been selected to the 2011-12 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Two Yellow Jacket men are junior 2011 OAC Co-Cross Country Runner of the Year Kenny Janosko (Mentor) and senior All-OAC distance specialist Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/ Calvert). The women are junior All-OAC sprinter Lauren Nanni (Parma/ Padua Fransiscan) and senior distance runner Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center). This was Patterson's second Academic All-OAC selection and the first for the other three.

Janosko, who carries a 3.74 grade point average in B-W's 3:2 Master of Accounting Program, is one of the best distance runners in the OAC and Great Lakes Region of Division III. In addition to being the OAC's Co-Cross Country Runner of the Year, he was a two-time OAC Cross Country Runner of the Week, placed 66th of 279 runners at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet, sixth of 253 runners at the Great Lakes Regional, second at the OAC Championships and fourth at the All-Ohio Meet. This winter, Janosko placed second in the 5,000-meter run and third in the 3,000 meters at the 2012 OAC Indoor Championship Meet. Due to an injury, he did not participate outdoors this spring.  In the classroom, Janosko is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies and is involved in the B-W Accounting Association.

Szablewski carried a 3.78 grade average and graduated this spring Cum Laude with a degree in pre-physical therapy and exercise science. In cross country, the four-year letterman earned All-OAC honors as a junior with a seventh place finish at the OAC Championship Meet and All-Ohio honors with a 13th-place showing. Despite being injured most of this fall, Szablewski placed 77th at the OAC Meet and 84th at the All-Ohio Meet. In track, he twice placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run at the OAC Championships. In the classroom, he was a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Dayton C. Miller, Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies. Szablewski received an Academic Excellence Award at the 2012 Student-Athlete Award Ceremony for carrying the "Highest Grade Point Average" on the cross country team and track team in 2011 and 2012.
