Men’s Tennis Sets Sights on OAC Title

BEREA, Ohio – Under the guidance of veteran head coach Brian Rector '89, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis teams sets sight on Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. 

Rector returns four letterwinners, one All-OAC performer and two Academic All-OAC selections from the 2021 spring team that finished with an overall mark of 1-3 and a record of 1-3 in the OAC. The roster features one senior, three juniors, one sophomore and six incoming freshmen. 

Headlining the returns are junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne) and senior Edwin Schartman (Westlake).  Tosatto, who was a second-team All-OAC selection last season, was tied for the team lead with two wins in both singles and doubles. Schartman was also tied for the team lead with two wins coming in both singles and doubles.

Other returners include junior Academic All-OAC selection Mateo Gonzalez (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville South), junior Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) and sophomore Shahzeb Malik (Strongsville).

Gonzalez recorded a win in both singles and doubles competitions. Kernan posted a win in the No.1 singles and doubles spots. Malik looks to make a major impact in the new campaign.

Completing the roster are freshmen Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.), Jack Hindman (Avon), Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills), Tyler Perkins (Geneva),  Caleb Reed (Wilmington) and Adam Zeidler (Bay Villge/Bay) who will look to earn immediate playing time.

The Yellow Jackets open the season on Saturday, September 11 when they travel for a pair a of nonconference matches. They first travel to Washington, Pa. for a single match against Washington and Jefferson College at 11:00 a.m. They then travel to Steubenville to take Franciscan University at 4:00 p.m.
