Men’s Tennis Defeats Heidelberg in OAC Action

TIFFIN Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis returned to action for the first time in 11 days won its second straight Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season as it defeated Heidelberg University by a final score of 8-1 on the Heidelberg Tennis Courts. 

BW (11-2, 2-1 OAC), who played just its third match since its spring break trip to Hilton Head due to inclement weather, won all three doubles matches.   Sophomore All-OAC player Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and sophomore Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) picked up the win at first doubles by a score of 8-2.  Senior Academic All-OAC players Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and Jake Liebler (Medina) won at second doubles by a score of 8-6.  Sophomore Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) and freshman Jake Elbin (Findlay) captured third doubles by a score of 8-0. 

The Yellow Jackets won five of six singles matches to secure the win. Katz secured second singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.  Harris took third singles by identical scores of 6-0.  Liebler took fourth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.  Elbin brought home victory at fifth singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.  Junior Alex Papke (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) won at sixth singles by identical scores of 6-0. 

BW is back in action on Thursday, April 13 when it travels to Mason for a non-conference match against Berea (Ky.) College at the Linder Family Tennis Center at 5 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets will remain in Mason on Friday, April 14 for a pair of OAC matches against Marietta College and Muskingum University at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
