SPORTS PLAYED AT BW (YEARS AND LETTERS WON): As a senior in 2011-12, Alex played in his foruth season of tennis. He has earned four varsity letters.

GENERAL TENNIS INFORMATION: Alex has had a solid tennis career during his four years at Baldwin-Wallace. B-W has recorded an 88-14 record during his career as a Yellow Jacket. He has appeared in 109 singles matches for a record of 87-22, second behind James Dayly for most wins in B-W history. Alex has also appeared in 102 doubles matches for a record of 79-23.

As a freshman in 2008-2009, Alex played his first season of tennis and earned his first varsity letter.  In singles, Alex saw time as the No. 3 and 4 player and compiled a 22-3 overall mark, including 18-0 as the No. 4. In doubles, Alex finished 18-5 overall on the season including 18-3 in spring double matches with fellow freshman Taylor Long as part of the third doubles duo.  For his efforts, Alex was a second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection. The Yellow Jackets finished the season 19-4 overall, 7-2 in the OAC and advanced to the OAC Final Four.

As a sophomore in 2009-2010, Alex competed in his second season of tennis.  In singles, Alex was primarily used as the No. 1 player and compiled a record of 17-8.  In doubles play, Alex teamed with Taylor Long as the No. 2 doubles team and compiled a record of 17-6.  For his efforts, Alex was named to the 2010 All-OAC first team.  The Yellow Jackets finsihed the season with an overall record of 19-4 and 7-2 in the OAC.  The team finished second at the OAC Tournament.  Alex was named honorable Academic All-OAC At-Large.

As a junior in 2010-11, Alex played in his third season of tennis and earned his third varsity letter. He spent the entire season as the No.1 singles player and combined with freshman teammate Brad Minrovic as the No.2 doubles tandem for the majority of the season. He was named to the Ohio Athletic Conference first team for his efforts during the fall and spring. This was his second selection to the first team and third time Alex has recieved All-OAC honors. In singles play, Joe compiled a record of 22-5.  In doubles play, Alex went 19-6 with Minrovic and 1-2 with junior teammate Alex Kearney. Alex was also named honorable Academic All-OAC At-Large. Alex also was named as a Scholar-Athlete by ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) for having a better than 3.5 grade point average.  The Yellow Jackets went 21-5 overall and 6-3 in OAC play and lost in the semi-finals of the OAC tournament.





As a senior in 2011-12, Alex is playing his fourth season of tennis. He is a team captain, plays No.1 singles and No.1 doubles. Alex was selected as the OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on March 26 for his efforts in a 9-0 shutout victory on March 24 versus Otterbein. Alex is second all-time in victories with 87. Alex's 166 career combination record ranks second all-time to James Daly's 196 wins. Alex finished with a singles record of 87-22 and a doubles record of 79-23. B-W finished their season with a 29-1 record overall, won the OAC regular season and torunament titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS PLAYED (YEARS & LETTERS EARNED): Alex played four seasons of tennis and earned four varsity letters.

HIGH SCHOOL HONORS, (ALL-CONFERENCE, DISTRICT,  ETC.): As a freshman, Alex was selected Southwest Conference second team at second singles.  As a junior, Alex earned second team All- SWC for first singles and was a sectional runner-up and district qualifier in singles.  Alex won his sectional his senior year was third at districts and qualified for state. He also won the LCAAA for the second year in a row.  He was MVP for his team three years in a row and was also the scholar athlete for his team. Alex was the first-ever state qualifier from Avon Lake in singles.  Academically, Alex was an Honors student with his highest quarterly grade point average at 4.4.
