Men’s Swimming and Diving Drops First Dual to Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team dropped the first dual meet of the 2018-19 season to non-conference opponent Ohio Wesleyan University inside the Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center.

BW (0-1 overall) fell to Ohio Wesleyan (1-0) by a final score of 150-81.

Freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) brought home two event wins in his collegiate dual meet debut, winning the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke in times of 1:59.67 and 1:00.65, respectively. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) also won a third event for the Yellow Jackets in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.36 seconds.

Four other BW swimmers had runner-up finishes in sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverlead, junior All-OAC diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights), senior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) and Shaw. Butt finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.40, Shaw swam the 50-yard freestyle in 23.15 seconds as the runner-up and Beyer placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.65 seconds. Rinaldi took second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events with 122 points and 144.25 points, respectively.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), Lewis, Shaw and Beyer took second in a time of 1:40.03. Senior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), sophomore stroker Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario), freshman freestyler Christian Velasquez (Fulshear, Texas/Seven Lakes) and Butt teamed up for a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.42.

BW opens OAC action on Saturday, Oct. 20, when the Yellow Jackets travel to take on Wilmington College at 1 p.m. inside the Wilmington Natatorium.
