Men's Swimming and Diving Team Drops OAC Dual Meet at Mount Union

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team was defeated by the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet in the Hammond Natatorium inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Yellow Jacket men were defeated by a score of 144-58.

In the losing effort BW was led by junior All-OAC freestyler Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) and sophomore All-OAC swimmer Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Hts.). 

Burk finished the night with three-second place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:06.06, the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:34.28 and the 100-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 1:08.13. Thompson placed second in the 200-yard individual medley touching the wall in 2:08.42 and was first in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:00.37.

Junior swimmer Taylor Elgart (Shaker Heights) placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.24.

Freshman freestyler Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) added a third and a fourth place finish for the Yellow Jackets. Hartenstein placed third in the 200-yard freestyle touching the wall in a time of 1:58.97 and he finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:23.47.  

In relay action freshman freestyler John Beyer (Columbus / Centennial), senior swimmer Henry Hammond (Cleveland Heights), freshman freestyler James Philbrick (Mundelein, Ill.), and Hartenstein placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

BW returns to action on Saturday, November 21 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio for a dual meet against Kenyon College in the James A. Steen Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
