AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse freshman goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) has earned his second career Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award.
Storner earns his second OAC defensive weekly accolade of his young career in just a three-week span. He is the only OAC netminder to claim the honor on at least two occassions in 2020.
The impressive rookie led the way in the cage for BW in its two spring break trip games in Colorado Springs this past week. In the Yellow Jackets' neutral site game against Haverford (Pa.) College, Storner made 13 saves on 21 total shots faced, and grabbed two ground balls. He then followed up that showing with a record-tying performance against host institution Colorado College. The netminders turned aside 21 shots, on a total 34 encountered. The 21-save single-game mark previously and solely belonged to Jake Harders back in BW's inaugural 2013 season.
Storner currently boasts a 64.4 save percentage, in addition to collecting 87 total saves this season. He ranks first and second, respectively, amongst OAC goalkeepers in those statistical categories.
BW abruptly finished the campaign with a 2-4 record, as its 2020 schedule was cut short amid the NCAA's and OAC's decision to cancel of all winter and spring sports, a precautionary measure in combatting the COVID-19 virus.
