BW Men’s Lacrosse Cruises to Season Opening Victory.

BEREA, OHIO – Sophomore attacker Vinny Carson (Cleveland / Benedictine) scored three goals and the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated Alfred State (N.Y.) College, 18-2, in the season-opener game at Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.

In the first quarter BW (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead.  Carson led the Yellow Jackets with two goals. In addition to Carson, freshman James Wilhelm (Bay Village / Cleveland St. Ignatuis), Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville East), and Luke Happel (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) all tallied one goal.

In the second quarter the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 7-0 when freshman midfielders Shane Rakich (Dublin /Olentangy Liberty) and Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) each tallied a goal.

BW added four goals in the third and five in the second.  Alfred State (0-2) got a goal in the third and fourth quarter from Nate Spoor and both were assisted by David Ford.

Yellow Jacket sophomore goalkeeper Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) logged 53:08 minutes in goal and made two saves to win his first game of the season. 

BW outshot Alfred State, 57-22, and held a 79-43 advantage in ground balls.

The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 overall and next play on Saturday, March 8 at Houghton (N.Y.) College at 1 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets host Olivet (Mich.) College on Monday, March 10 at Finnie Stadium at 4 p.m.
