Schneider Announces Retirement as Men’s Golf Coach

BEREA, Ohio – After 10 seasons, Baldwin Wallace University Head Men's Golf Coach Wayne Schneider has announced his retirement from coaching.

Though his coaching days will be behind him, Schneider will remain at BW as an adjunct professor in allied health, sport, and wellness as a Clinical Practice Supervisor.

This was a very difficult decision but it's one that I felt was best for myself and my family," said Schneider.   "I have truly enjoyed my 10 years as the head coach and will cherish the memories that I formed during my tenure.  BW is a truly a great place. I will miss coaching and all the people that I have worked with over the years."

Schneider, who was the Ohio Athletic Coach of the Year in 2018-19, mentored 14 All-OAC players, including the 2017 OAC Medalist in Scott Schroeder, and nine Academic All-OAC honorees. He also guided Jimmy Clark to the lowest scoring average in school history. In addition to his duties with the men's team, Schneider served as the interim women's golf coach in 2010. 

Wayne will be deeply missed within our department and by our student-athletes, stated, Director of Athletics Steve Thompson. His unwavering commitment to his students was unparalleled and evident every day throughout his illustrious career as both an educator and coach.  We wish him the very best in retirement but know he will not be far from the corner of Bagley and Tressel."

Prior to coming to BW, he taught health and physical education and held numerous coaching positions in the Berea City School District.  At the high school level, Schneider was the head wrestling coach and head golf coach.  At the junior high level, he was a head football, wrestling and track and field coach.  Schneider also served as an Interim Middle School Athletic Director.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education and a master's in physical education from Kent State University.  While at Kent State, he served as the secretary for Phi Epsilon Kappa, Men's Physical Education Honor Society and was a news reporter and disc jockey on campus radio station WKSU.

Prior to Kent State, Schneider earned an associate degree from Cuyahoga Community College.  He earned varsity letter in baseball and golf while at Tri-C.
