Chacon Named First Women’s Volleyball Graduate Assistant

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball head coach Kristina Fultz has announced that Sophie Chacon will be joining her staff as the University first-ever graduate assistant in 2023.

"I am thrilled to be adding Sophie to our volleyball family," stated Fultz.  "Her passion, volleyball knowledge, and competitive drive will enhance the strength of our staff and her experience playing at a high level will have a great impact on our student-athletes. I know she will help further our vision for Baldwin Wallace women's volleyball as we develop our young women on and off the floor. 

Chacon comes to Berea after graduating Suma Cum Laude with Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Maryland Eastern Shores. 

While at Maryland Eastern Shores, she appeared in 47 matches and recorded 606 assists, 47 kills, 32 service aces and three blocks.  Chacon, who served as a team captain, was a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree and the President of the Chemistry Society. 

Chacon began her career at the University of Texas at El Paso.  While at UTEP, Chacon played in 17 matches and tallied 94 assists.  She was a two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll performer and Dean's List Student.  Chacon earned a Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in 2020.  She was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Chacon played four years and was a four-year captain of volleyball at Franklin High School in El Paso, Texas.  She ranks second in school history for assists in a season and fifth all-time in assists in a career.  Off the court, Chacon was the Senior Class President and a member of the Student Council Executive Board, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society.
