NEW WILMINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team concluded play at the Westminster (Pa.) College Invitational Tournament by dropping a pair of matches on Saturday at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets (1-3) fell to Penn State Behrend by scores of 22-25, 20-25 and 11-25 and to Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University by scores of 18-25, 16-25 and 24-26..
In the opener versus Behrend, the BW offense was led offensively by senior middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and junior right side hitter Markema Winters (Akron/Firestone) with seven kills apiece. Senior setter Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) hit double figures in assists with 16. Senior defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelinn) contributed five service aces.
Defensively, while freshman defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul)led the way with seven digs.
Versus Carnegie Mellon, Bonacci once again led the Yellow Jacket offense as she tallied nine kills and had four blocks. Nagle set up the offense with 19 assists. Freshman defensive specialist/libero Allyson Iwanski (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) led the defense with 14 digs and Nagle added 12.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Wednesday, September 4 when they travel to nearby Oberlin for a non-conference match with the Yeowomen of Oberlin College at 7 p.m. Next weekend, BW will host the 15th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7.
