Four BW Volleyball Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO --  Four Baldwin Wallace University volleyball student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.  To qualify, each student-athlete had to have a minimum 3.495 grade point average or higher and achieve varsity status on his or her team.  BW had the second most selections of any OAC institution.

The four volleyball student-athletes are Colleen Bonacci (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), Taylor Burns (Tiffin/Fostoria St. Wendelinn), Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) and Kayla Harris (Lima).

Bonacci is a three-time Academic All-OAC selection and Chlad earns Academic All-OAC accolades for the second time 

Bonacci is a senior middle hitter who carries a 3.84 grade average in exercise science. The three-time Academic All-OAC choice was a four-year starter who led the team this fall in hitting at .239 and kills with a career-high 286 and was third in blocks with 79. During her career, Bonacci played in 95 matches and 322 sets and hit .220 with 704 kills.  The Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar is a member of a number of academic honoraries and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Burns is a senior outside hitter who carries a 3.51 grade average in communication disorders. This fall, she played in all 29 matches and 112 games and had 371 defensive digs to rank second, 143 kills, 35 set assists, a team-leading 34 service aces and 16 blocks. During her career, Burns played in 113 matches and 398 sets and contributed 1,302 digs to rank 10th all-time and had 138 aces to rank eighth all-time. She is a Dean's List student, member of a number of honor societies as well as the National Student Sign Language Hearing Association, Treasurer of the SAAC and the Chair for the Distinguished Leaders group.

Chlad is a junior right side hitter who carries a 3.94 grade average in communication disorders. The two-time Academic All-OAC pick played in 95 sets this season and had 142 kills, 45 blocks and 35 digs.  After three seasons, she has played in 38 matches and 116 sets and has contributed 154 kills, 47 blocks and 40 digs. Chlad is a Dean's List student and had the highest grade point average on the volleyball team.

Harris is a senior outside hitter who carries a 3.59 grade average in criminal justice. She earned her fourth letter this fall as she played in all 29 matches and 107 sets and had 203 kills, a team-leading 92 blocks and hit .139. During her career, Harris played in 60 matches and 188 sets and contributed 362 kills and 147 blocks and hit .169 overall. She also is a Dean's List student.
