WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University senior All-American 197-pounder Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week honor.

Byrne garners his first accolade after posting a 5-0 record last week all by pinfall to lead the No. 22 nationally ranked Yellow Jackets to a 38-3 OAC opening victory over Heidelberg last Tuesday and to the team title at the annual BW Invitational last Saturday.

In his first action of the season, Byrne pinned Braedan Kahl of Heidelberg in 1:49. He closed out the week by capturing the 197-pound title at the BW Invitational.  Byrne won his opening match by pinfall in 51 seconds over Alex Searfoss of Manchester (Ind.) University in 2:02.  Byrne claimed the 197-pound title by pinning Stephen Andryc of Case Western Reserve in 24 seconds.

For his career, Byrne has a career record of 58-12 with 35 pins, six major decisions and one technical fall.  He is a two-time All-OAC selection, a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-American third-team selection and an All-Central Region performer.

Off the mat, Byrne is a NWCA Scholar All-American.
