Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dropped to Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 21-10 inside Mount Union Stadium. 

BW (1-8, 1-8 OAC) was led by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere) and freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) who scored three goals each. Freshman attacker Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake) added a career-best two goals. 

Mount Union (8-1, 8-1 OAC) was led by senior attacker Sydney Bumbarger who scored six goals and added an assist. Junior attacker Mackenzie Lewis and freshman attacker Katie Clark each scored five goals. Clark also added four assists on the evening. Freshman defender Eden Kesler added two goals.  

The first half featured great back-and-forth action. The Purple Raiders opened things up when Bumbarger scored a goal. The Yellow Jackets attack was able to able to respond quickly when sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) hit the back of the cage. Mount Union got a quick response of their own when Clark got on the board with 26:48 remaining. BW came roaring back 37 seconds later when Loukas ripped one past the keeper. The Purple Raiders regained their one goal advantage when Bumbarger hit the back of the net. The Yellow Jackets attack kept the pressure on and tied things up at 3-3 when Loukas put one into the back of the net. Mount Union responded with a 3-0 run that was capped off with a Clark goal to give them a 6-3. BW was able to end the Purple Raider run when freshman attacker Tara Martin (Brunswick) rifled one into the back of the net. The back-and-forth scoring got going again with a Mount Union goal by Lewis. The Yellow Jackets got another response goal, this one came by the way of Ray with 6:42 remaining. The Purple Raiders closed the half on a 7-0 run that extended their lead to 14-5. The run was led by Lewis who added three goals. 

BW got the scoring started in the second half when DeBevoise hit the back of the cage just 1:30 minutes into the half. Mount Union responded with a 6-0 run that was capped off by Eden Kesler. The Yellow Jackets attack got a response when Ray rifled one past the keeper with 14:10 remaining in the game. The Purple Raiders got another response when Clark hit the back of the net. BW ended the game on a 3-0 run that was capped off by Ray with 34 seconds remaining in the game. 

In the cage, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) saved 13 of the 37 shots she faced. 

The Yellow Jackets return to attack on Saturday, April 3 when they host Marietta College in the first game of a men's and women's lacrosse doubleheader at 1 p.m. inside George Finnie Stadium on Tressel Field.
