Softball Drops OAC Doubleheader to Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team was swept by Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Rike Field.

In game one, BW (16-12, 6-4 OAC) was held scoreless for the third time of the season on four hits.  Otterbein (13-15, 7-5 OAC) scored nine runs on nine hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the first, one in the second, and sixth in the third.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 1-for-1 with a double and walk
  • Sophomore left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) went 1-for-2
  • Sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 1-for-2
  • Freshman third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) went 1-for-2

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed nine runs (five earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks in 2.2 innings pitched
  • Junior righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) pitched the final 1.1 innings and did not allow a run on one hit with a strikeout

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored nine runs on nine hits as they plated two runs in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth and one in the sixth.   The Cardinals scored 12 runs on eight hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first, three in the second, three in the fourth and four in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Lester went 2-for-3 with two doubles, run scored and walk
  • Maddamma went 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI)

In the Circle

  • Lester got the start and the no decision as she allowed six runs five earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks in three innings pitched
  • Freshman right hander Shelby Morris (Centerburg) allowed two runs on one hit with two walks in an inning pitched
  • Welty took the loss as she allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits with a strikeout and walk

BW is back in action on Sunday, April 21 when it hosts a rescheduled OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
