Camarati Throws No Hitter, Softball Splits OAC and Home Opening Doubleheader with Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference right handed pitcher Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) threw her fourth career no-hitter and struck out a career-high 18 batters as the Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a home opening and Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with Wilmington College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

On the pitching gem by Camarati, BW (2-12, 1-1 OAC) won the opnener by a final score of 3-0.  Wilmington (7-5, 1-1 OAC) took the night cap by a final score of 3-2.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on seven hits as they plated two runs in the first inning and one in the sixth.   The Quakers were held scoreless and hitless as they only mustered one walk in the third inning.

At the Plate

  • Seven BW hitters had a base knock
  • Senior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) and sophomore third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon) each had a double
  • Junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) recorded two runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Gersey had an RBI 

In the Circle

  • Camarati picked up her second win of the season as she did not allow a run or hit with a career-best 18 strikeouts and one walk for the complete game victory.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets two runs on four hits as they played one run in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning on the solo shot by Matousek.  Wilmington scored three runs on eight hits as the pushed one run across the plate in the third inning and two in the fourth.

At the Plate

  • Matousek, junior first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor), junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alicia Saxton (Boardman) and sophomore All-OAC shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) each had a base knock
  • Matousek had a homer, run scored and an RBI
  • Thompson had a double
  • Saxton had a run scored
  • Freshman leftfielder Kenzie Morsillo (Middleburg Heights/Padua Franciscan) had a walk and an RBI

In the Circle

  • Camarati made the start and pitched two innings and did not allow a run on two hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
  • Junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) suffered the loss as she allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with a career-high eight strikeouts and one walk.

BW is back in action on Thursday, March 31 when it hosts a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford at 3 p.m.
