Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Mount Union, Advances to OAC Tournament Semifinals

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team shutout the University in Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match by a final score of 5-0 on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

In the OAC Tournament, the team that secures five points first wins the match and all matches on the court at the time of the winning point will be deemed as not finished.

BW (15-6), who is the fourth seed, advances to the semifinals and travels to Ada on Friday, May 3 when it takes on top-seeded Ohio Northern University on the West Campus Courts at 3 p.m.  Mount Union (5-11), who was the fifth seed, ends its season.

Doubles

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and sophomore All-OAC Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) won at first doubles to secure the first point by a score of 8-1
  • Sophomore Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) and Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) won at second doubles to secure the third point by a score of 8-6
  • Junior All-OAC Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.) and junior All-OAC Adam Zeidler (Bay Village/Bay won at third doubles to secure the second point by a score of 8-2

Singles

  • McGee did not finish at first singles with scores of 6-2 and 2-3
  • Horvath won at fourth at second singles to secure the fourth point by scores of 6-1 and 6-0
  • Sophomore Gavin Binni (Sylvania/Northview) did not finish at third singles with scores of 5-7 and 0-3
  • Weingart did not finish at fourth singles with scores of 3-6 and 0-4
  • Harders won  at fifth singles to secure the win by scores of 6-2 and 6-1
  • Zeidler did not finish at sixth singles by scores of 6-2 and 5-3
