BW Men’s Tennis Beats Heidelberg for 49th Straight Regular Season Win

BEREA, OHIO – The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team improved to 20-0 and won its 49th straight regular season match today (Tuesday, April 16, 2013) with an 8-1 victory against Heidelberg University in an OAC match at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts.

The regular season winning streak dates back to last season when BW finished 29-1 overall, won both the OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The win was also BW's 15th straight in OAC regular season action and improves BW to 5-0 in the OAC prior to playing an OAC make-up match at Capital University this Friday, April 19, before its big OAC showdown with Ohio Northern University this Saturday, April 20.

Heidelberg fell to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.

BW led 2-1 after doubles play and swept all six singles matches to earn the win.

Highlighting the victory was senior No. 1 singles player Joe Horvath (North Royalton), who defeated Heidelberg's Cliff Goetz, 6-1 and 6-4, to win his 93rd career match and improve to 93-11 for his career (.894), and improved to 20-3 this season. He is second all-time in singles wins. The all-time leader is James Daly (2005-2008) with 105 career victories.

In addition to Horvath, sophomore All-OAC No. 2 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) defeated Zach Schwenning, 6-2 and 6-2, to improve to 21-4. Freshman No. 3 singles player Peter Harris (Akron/ Revere) defeated Dorion Kempf, 6-0 and 6-1, and improved to 22-3.  Senior Academic All-OAC No. 4 player Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) improved to 18-2 overall with a 6-0 and 6-2 win against Matt McDivitt. Freshman No. 5 player Doug Ganim (Olentangy/ Orange) defeated Dan Driscoll, 6-0 and 6-0, to improve to 20-4 overall.  Senior Academic All-OAC and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 standout Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) beat Brandon Lust, 6-0 and 6-0, and upped his record to 19-5.   

In doubles action,  the No. 2 tandem of Patterson and Minrovic beat Kempf and McDivitt, 8-3, and improved to 16-4. At No. 3, Horvath and Kearney defeated Driscoll and Lust, 8-0, to keep their 15-0 record perfect.
