Three Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Named to All-Ohio Team

BEREA, OHIO -- Three Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2011 Ohio Soccer Coaches Association (OSCA) Division III All-Ohio team.

Senior forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) was selected to the first-team and senior defender Andy Thompson (Huron) and junior forward Pat Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) were tabbed to the third-team. Vandendriessche is earning his second All-Ohio accolade and Thompson and Brennan are first time choices.

Vandendriessche, an international busniess and finance major, had a record-setting season. He led the team and the Ohio Athletic Conference in goals with 16 and points with 37 and had a team-best seven game-winning goals.  He is B-W's all-time leader in career goals scored (46), career points (102), goals in a season (16) and points in a season (37). For his outstanding play on the field this season, Vandendriessche was named as a second-team Division III All-Great Lakes Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), a first-team All-OAC selection,  a two-time OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week pick and B-W's Most Valuable Offensive Player.  He ends his career as a 4-time All-OAC, 3-time All-Region and 2-time All-Ohio pick.

Thompson, an economics major, was a first-team All-OAC performer this season. He posted one goal and a career-high tying six assists for eight points. He had six assists for the second consecutive season.  Thompson, a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter, who took 76 shots, including 32 on-goal, scored six goals, including three game-winners and added 16 assists for 28 career points. He ended his career as a 2-time All-OAC pick.

In addition to being named All-Ohio this fall, Brennan was the fifth Yellow Jacket men's soccer student-athlete to earn first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America accolades. The three-time All-OAC and two-time CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District and Academic All-OAC player carries a 3.79 grade point average in B-W's 3:2 master's of business administration in accounting program.  On the field this season, he tallied seven goals and added a career-high seven assists to rank third on the team with a career-best 21 points.

"We are pleased for Carlin, Andy and Pat," said 10th-year Head Coach Reid Ayers. "They are leaders in the classroom, on the field and on campus. Each student-athlete serves as a strong role model for all of our younger student-athletes.

"Each young man is extremely hard-working and displayed the leadership skills to help our team have the best chance to be successful," continued Ayers.  "It is nice to see that they are being rewarded for being very good individual student-athletes and for their team effort."

This season, the Yellow Jackets set a school-record for victories in a season with 16, finished 16-6 overall and made their first-ever NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance.
