Men’s Lacrosse Knocks off Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeats Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 31-3 inside George Finnie Stadium on the Tressel Field. 

BW (3-0, 2-0 OAC) was led by sophomore midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) who scored a career high four goals. Freshman attackers Jake Nanosky (Medina) and Gunner MacMillan (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) each added three goals. Nanosky also added four assists for a career high seven points. Junior midfielder John Schulte (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South), sophomore attacker Kyler Byerly (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Alleghany), freshman midfielder Hunter Boehm (Delaware/Olentangy), freshman midfielder Noah Bartos (Lancaster, N.Y.), freshman attack Zakary Kroeger (Cincinnati/Archbishop Moeller), freshman midfielder Trevor Stevens (Buffalo, N.Y./Lancaster), and freshman midfielder Keaton Trout (Pickerington/North) all added two goals each.  

Wilmington (0-3, 0-2 OAC) was led by junior attacker Austin Young who scored two goals on the day. Junior midfielder Sawyer Starett also added one goal. 

The Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start when Stevens rifled one into the back of the net just 34 seconds into the game. The BW attack did not let off pressure as they went on a 9-0 run spanning 11:03. The run was capped off by Byerly. The Quakers got on the board when Starett found the back of the net with 3:57 remaining. The Yellow Jackets finished off the scoring in the first going on a 4-0 run that was finished by Ferguson with 13 seconds remaining in the quarter. 

The second stanza started off with BW keeping the attack going when Ferguson hit the back of the net with 13:22 remaining in the half. Wilmington got the attack back on track with when Young hit the back of the cage with 8:10 remaining in the half. The Yellow Jackets ended the half going on a 4-0 run that was finished off by Nanosky when he ripped one into the back of the net. 

BW opened up the scoring in the second half continuing the scoring run and expanding it to 8-0. The run was capped off by freshman midfielder Shawn Davis (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) with 5:18 remaining in the quarter. The Quakers responded when Young hit the back of the net with 2:54 remaining in the third. The Yellow Jackets ended the scoring with one last goal by junior midfielder Eric Bechtel (Westlake). 

In the fourth quarter, the BW defense held strong holding Wilmington scoreless. The BW attack scored eight goals in the period with six different players scoring. Freshman midfielders Boehm and Bartos each scored two in the period.  

In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) started the game facing three total shots and getting one save. Junior goalkeeper Will Scurci (Mars, Pa.) and freshman goalkeeper Samuel LoPiccolo (Mason/ William Mason) each had three saves each on four and six shots faced, respectively. Junior goalkeeper Zach Noll (Miamisburg) saved the only shot he faced.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Heidelberg University in a non-conference matchup.
