BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated Ohio Northern University in a non-conference matchup by a final score 9-7 inside George Finnie Stadium on Tressel Field.

Freshman attacker Gunner MacMillan (Henrietta, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) led BW (9-1) with four goals. Five other Yellow Jackets added a goal each.

Ohio Northern (5-5) had seven different players score a goal each.

As the game got going, the snow started falling and the Yellow Jackets got out to a quick lead. MacMillan went behind the back to beat the keeper and put BW up 1-0. The Polar Bears got a quick response with junior attacker Nick Gosnell hitting the back of the cage less than a minute later. The Yellow Jackets pulled away after going on a 4-0 run with 4:53 left in the quarter, when MacMillan scored his second of the day. The Polar Bears ended the quarter with a goal coming by the way of senior midfielder John Mullin to cut the BW lead by 5-2.

The second quarter was all Yellow Jackets as they outscored Ohio Northern 2-0. MacMillan opened the scoring with 11:10 left in the period. Sophomore midfielder Declan Tubbs (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) ended the scoring in the half with a goal coming with 5:44 remaining to put BW up 7-2.

BW got a quick goal to open the second half. MacMillan scored his fourth and final goal, 43 seconds into the half. The Polar Bears were able to end the Yellow Jackets of three unanswered goals when senior attacker Cameron Marous hit the back of the net with 7:22 remaining. BW regained their six-goal lead when Jake Nanosky (Medina) rifled one past the keeper. Ohio Northern ended the period with a goal coming from senior attacker Josh Foster to trim the Yellow Jackets lead to 9-4.

The fourth quarter was fueled by the Polar Bears intensity. They outscored BW 3-0 and outshot the Yellow Jackets 18-1. However, the three goals were not enough to come back as the BW came away with a 9-7 victory. The scoring was capped off with 1:40 left in the game by senior midfielder Mason Schmeling.

In the cage for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) had 14 saves on the 21 shots he faced.

BW returns to action on Saturday, April 24 when they travel to Bexley to take on Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup inside Bernlohr Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
