Men’s Lacrosse Holds off Ohio Northern in Victory

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team stays perfect with a 10-7 win in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup over Ohio Northern University inside Dial-Roberson Stadium. 

BW (5-0, 3-0 OAC) was led by freshmen attacker Jake Nanosky (Medina) who scored four goals and added an assist. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Nick Nanosky (Medina) added two goals for the Yellow Jackets. 

Ohio Northern (3-2, 1-1 OAC) was led by junior attacker Ben Gawronski who scored two goals. Four other Polar Bear players added one goal each. 

BW got off to a fast start with a 2-0 run to start the game. Freshman midfielder Trevor Stevens (Buffalo, N.Y./Lancaster) got it started and Jake Nanosky finished the run with 8:50 remaining in the quarter. Ohio Northern picked up the defense and offense as they held the Yellow Jackets scoreless the rest of the quarter while adding three goals. The 3-0 Polar Bears run was capped off by Gawronski with 2:06 remaining to give Ohio Northern the 3-2 lead. 

Gawronski got the scoring started in the second with a goal that extended the Polar Bears to 4-0. BW was able to get through the defense and went on another 2-0 run that saw sophomore midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) and Nick Nanosky find the back of the net. Ohio Northern was not done yet with Mason Schmeling getting the response that gave them the 5-4 lead. The Yellow Jackets knotted things up at 5-5 when Jake Nanosky rifled one into the back of the net with 1:11 remaining in the half. 

The Polar Bears started the second half strong with Pat Berthelsen – Leon getting the offense going to give Ohio Northern their last lead of the game.  BW went on a 3-0 run to end the quarter. This gave them an 8-6 lead and they never looked back. The run saw Nick Nanoskysenior midfielder Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes), and Jake Nanosky each find the back of the cage. 

The fourth quarter saw the Polar Bears responded when Cameron Marous hit the back of the net. However, the Yellow Jacket defense proved to be swarming as they held Ohio Northern scoreless the rest of the way. The BW attack added two more goals to extend the lead to 10-7. Jake Nanosky and junior midfielder John Schulte (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South) added the final goals for the Yellow Jackets. 

In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) recorded 13 saves on 43 shots faced.

BW is back in action on Saturday March 27 as they return home to face Otterbein University inside Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m. in the first game of a men's and women's lacrosse OAC doubleheader.
