School Record Falls, Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse cruised past Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference by a final score of 20-2 inside Hoernemann Stadium. 

Freshman attacker Jake Nanosky (Medina) led BW (9-1, 7-0 OAC) with six goals. Jake Nanosky also added an assist. Freshman attacker Gunner MacMillan (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) scored four goals. Sophomore attacker Kyler Byerly (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) scored three goals and added an assist.

Senior midfielder Liam Weaver and Senior attacker Alex Bruder scored the only Heidelberg (0-8, 0-6 OAC) goals. 

Freshman attacker Zakary Kroeger (Cincinnati/Archbishop Moeller) kicked off the scoring just 56 seconds into the game. The Student Princes' tied things up with 12:20 remaining when Weaver got into in the back of the net. Jake Nanosky started a 5-0 run for the Yellow Jackets, his goal broke the BW record for goals in a season by a freshman. The Yellow Jackets added four more goals to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter was all BW as they held Heidelberg scoreless while adding nine goals. Macmillan scored the first two goals. Jake Nanosky led the Yellow Jackets attack scoring three goals in the period. The scoring was finished off Nick Nanosky (Medina) with 15 seconds left in the half. BW carried a 15-1 lead into halftime. 

The second half was kicked off with a Student Princes goal coming from Bruder, which put an end to the Yellow Jackets run of 14 unanswered goals. Freshman midfielder Hunter Boehm (Delaware/Olentangy) got the BW attack going in the second half when he ripped one past the keeper with 6:18 remaining in the quarter to put the Yellow Jackets up 16-2. Both defenses tightened up allowing no goals the rest of the quarter. 

The final quarter was started off with a BW goal coming by the way of Jake NanoskyThe Yellow Jackets didn't allow a goal and added an additional three goals with two coming from Byerly as BW finished the game with a 20-2 victory. 

In the cage, senior Trent Davis (Ottawa Hills) recorded eight saves on 15 total shots he faced in one half of action. Sophomore goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) did not record a save on eight total shots he saw in one half of action. 

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 20 when they host Ohio Northern University in a non-conference matchup inside Finnie Stadium on Tressel Field at 7 p.m.
