SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO --   The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished third of seven teams today at the annual Pat Flowers Invitational hosted by John Carroll University at the Shaker Heights Country Club.  This was the season-opening event for BW.

The Yellow Jackets totaled 307 strokes on the par-71 and 6,593-yard Shaker Heights C.C. layout. BW was 10 strokes back  of the host school and its winning 297-stroke total.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) who carded an even-par 71. He was followed by junior No.2 player Augie Ward (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) with a 77, junior No.5 player Chris Nader (Westlake) with a 78, sophomore No.3 player Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/Medina Highland) with an 81 and sophomore No.4 player Andy Ingram (Vermilion) with an 86. In collegiate golf, each team has five starters with the top four scores counting toward the team score.

Playing as individuals were freshmen Dillon Haynes (Fairborn) and Connor Duplin (North Canton/St. Thomas Aquinas).  Duplin had a 75 and Haynes fired a 77 in their first collegiate event.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 16-17 when they travel to Findlay, Ohio to participate in the annual OAC Invitational Tournament at Red Hawk Run Golf Course. The collegiate golf season is broken into halves with both a fall and spring season. BW will compete in five events in the fall and five more in the spring, including the 2013 OAC Championship Tournament.
