SPRINGFIELD, OHIO-- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished 15th today (Sunday, October 7, 2012) at the two-day and 36-hole Wittenberg University Rosecrans-Maurer Fall Invitational Tournament at the Springfield Country Club. This was the final fall event for the Yellow Jacket men during the non-traditional portion of their schedule.
BW carded a second round score of 324 strokes. Combined with its first round score of 324 strokes on the par-72 and 6,684-yard Springfield C.C. layout, the Yellow Jackets had a 648-stroke total to place 15th of 15 teams. Ohio Wesleyan University and Allegheny (Pa.) College tied for the team title with 595 strokes each.
The Yellow Jacket men were led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) who shot rounds of 81 and a team-low today of 74 for a 155-stroke total. He was followed by junior Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) with rounds of 74 and 84 for a 158 total, sophomore Andy Ingram (Vermilion) with rounds of 84 and 83 for a 167 total, junior Chris Nader (Westlake) with identical rounds of 85 for a 170 total and sophomore Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/ Medina Highland) with rounds of 91 and 83 for a 174 total.
This fall, Spalding topped the team in stroke average at 76.71 for four tournaments and seven rounds of 18 holes. He was followed by Ward at 79.00, Nader at 83.86, Lyon at 84.14 and Ingram at 85.43. In addition, freshmen Dillon Hayes (Fairborn) and Connor Duplin (North Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) each played in two tournaments. Hayes played two rounds and averaged 78.5 strokes and Duplin played three rounds and averaged 84.67 strokes.
The 2013 spring season begins in March when the BW men head south on its annual Spring Break trip. The regular season concludes with the annual OAC Championship Tournament with the winning team receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
