Golfer Selected to Academic All-OAC Teams

 Nine Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes have been selected on this year's Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference teams, including five women and four men. In addition, six of the nine are repeat honorees from a year ago.

The five women's honorees are highlighted by junior 6-time NCAA Division III All-American diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) and junior Division III "Elite 89" nominee and golfer Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy).  Joining Pinter and Hamilton on the Academic All-OAC team is junior women's golfer Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and honorable mention picks in women's swimmer Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and women's tennis standout Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic). This is the second straight year that Pinter, Hamilton, Kapusta and Mittler have received this award and the first year for Musille.


The four men's honorees are highlighted by senior 3-time Academic All-OAC pick and men's number one singles and doubles standout Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake). Joining Trzeciak as an Academic All-OAC choice is junior men's No.1 golfer Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit), sophomore men's tennis player Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) and junior men's swimmer Tony Tijerina (Defiance/ Napoleon). This is the third straight year that Trzeciak has been selected and second for Tijerina.


Spalding, who carries a 3.75 grade point average in B-W's 3:2 Master's of Accounting Program, was the No.1 golfer the past two seasons, serves as a team captain and led the Yellow Jackets to a 47-42 overall record in 2011-12. The 2011 OAC Championships runner-up had a 77.19 stroke average this year and a 76.85 stroke average a year ago.  He had a career-low 71 on two separate occassions this season, earned OAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors for the third time in his career (once each year) and was the medalist at the Denison University Ted Barclay Invitational Tournament. In the classroom, Spalding is a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies. He is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Accounting Association, Student Investment Club and participated in a Student-Athlete Leadership Colloquim at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
