WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College men's golf team carded a round of 334 strokes today (Sunday, April 15, 2012) on the first day of the two-day and 54-hole Ohio Athletic Conference Invitational Tournament, hosted by Otterbein University at the Little Turtle Golf Club. The second 27 holes will be played on Monday, April 16.
B-W totalled 334 strokes for the first 18 holes of the invitational on the par-72 and 6,258-yard Little Turtle G.C. layout. Otterbein University leads after the first day with 320 strokes.
In terms of team play for the Yellow Jackets (five golfers make up a team with the top four scores counting toward the team total), junior Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) led the way as he carded a first round 80. This places Spalding tied for ninth individually. He was followed by senior Matt Warren (Copley) who carded an 82, placing him tied for 14th individually. Senior Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Padua Franciscan) posted a round of 84, placing him tied for 17th individually. After Jaskolski, freshman Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/ Fairview) fired an 88. To end team play for the day, sophomore Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) carded a 92.
Playing as individuals, freshman Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/ Medina Highland) shot an 87 and freshman Andy Ingram (Vermilion) carded a 91 on the first day of competition.
B-W will next compete at the annual Nye Intercollegiate Tournament at The College of Wooster on Tuesday, April 17 and then play at the 2012 OAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Muskingum University, on April 27-29 at the River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio.
