Men’s Team Finishes Third at 2012 OAC Invitational

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College men's golf team carded rounds of 327 and 339 for a total of 666 strokes today (Monday, April 16, 2012) in the final round of the two-day and 54-hole Ohio Athletic Conference Invitational Tournament, hosted by Otterbein University at the Little Turtle Golf Club.

B-W totalled 334 strokes for the first 18 holes of the invitational on the par-72 and 6,258-yard Little Turtle G.C. layout and combined with its 666-stroke total today finished with 1,000 total strokes to place third. Otterbein University won the event with 958 strokes.  

In terms of team play for the Yellow Jackets (five golfers make up a team with the top four scores counting toward the team total), junior Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) led the tournament for B-W as he shot rounds of 80, 84 and 85 for a 54-hole total of 249 strokes to finish in 11th place individually. He was followed by senior Matt Warren (Copley) who carded rounds of 82, 79 and 89 for a total of 250 strokes to place in a tie for 12th. Senior Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Padua Franciscan) posted rounds of 84, 83 and 88 for a 255 total  and freshman Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/ Fairview) fired rounds of 88, 88 and 79 to finish with a total of 255 strokes as each student-athlete tied for 19th. Sophomore Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) rounded out team totals with rounds of 92, 81 and 87 for 260 total strokes to place in a tie for 31st.

Playing as individuals, freshman Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/ Medina Highland) carded rounds of 87, 84 and 91 for a 262 total to place in a tie for 35th and freshman Andy Ingram (Vermilion) had rounds of 91, 90 and 97 for a total of 278 strokes to finish in 46th place individually.

B-W will next compete at the annual Nye Intercollegiate Tournament at The College of Wooster on Tuesday, April 17 and then play at the 2012 OAC Championship Tournament, hosted by Muskingum University, on April 27-29 at the River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio.
