Baldwin Wallace Golf Teams Have Strong Spring Trips and Now Seek OAC Titles

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team had a strong spring break trip and return to campus ready to challenge for the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference title and a berth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The action over spring break was BW's first since its five-tournament fall season.

The Yellow Jacket men compiled a 1-0 mark on its trip to California and beat Mount San Jacinto Junior College in a dual match.  The BW women also had a 1-0 slate on its trip to Pinehurst, North Carolina and defeated OAC-rival University of Mount Union in a dual match.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by freshman and transfer Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) with an 80 on the par-72 and 7,101-yard layout at the Country Club of Saboda Springs in San Jacinto. Ward transferred to BW from Kent State University at the semester break.

In addition to Ward, sophomore Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) and freshman Chris Nader (Westlake) each carded an 82, junior Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Parma Padua) had 87, junior Kyle Lewis (Riverside, Calif./ Riverside Poly) had 91, junior Matt Warren (Copley) had 95, junior Scott Rosenau (Amherst/ Steele) had 100 and senior Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) had 102.

This fall, the BW men participated in five tournaments and were led by Spalding with a 76.00 stroke average, followed by Routhieaux with a 77.63 average over eight rounds of 18 holes. Jaskolski also had a sub-80 average at 78.11 for nine rounds.

The Yellow Jackets are idle until March 25-26 when they travel to play at the Muskingum University Invitatiuonal Tournament at the Eagle Sticks Golf Club. Tee times are to be announced.

The Yellow Jacket women get back to action on March 26-27 when they participate at the Mt. Union Invitational Tournament at the Tannenhauf Golf Club.  Tee times are to be announced.
