BW Men's Golf Team Stands Third After Second Day of OAC Championship Tournament in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team stands third of nine teams today (Saturday, April 30, 2011) after the second day of the three-day and 54-hole Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio. Muskingum University is seving as the host institution.  The third and final round takes place tomorrow, Sunday, May 1.  The winner of the OAC Tournament receives the OAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.


BW carded a 301-stroke total today to go with its first day and season-low round of 299 strokes to total 600 strokes after two days on the first day on the par-72 and 6,668-yard River Greens layout.  In college golf, the team consists of five players with the four best scores that round counting toward the team total.  The Yellow Jackets trail first place Mt. Union by 14 strokes. 

BW was led by junior Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Parma Padua), this week's OAC Golfer of the Week, who shot a one-under-par 71 each of the first two days for a two-day and 36-hole total of 142 strokes. He is in second place individually. Last week, Jaskolski was the medalist at the 54-hole OAC Spring Invitational in Columbus.

In addition to Jaskolski, sophomore Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) fired a 75 today and a 76 yesterday and is at 151 overall. Senior Academic All-OAC player Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) shot a 79 today after a 74 yesterday and is at 153. Freshman Chris Nader (Westlake) had a 79 today and a 78 yesterday and is at 157. And, junior Matt Warren (Copley) had 76 today after an 88 yesterday and is at 164 strokes. Unfortunately BW's No.3 player, freshman Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) is missing after suffering an injury earlier this week.


The BW men have never won an OAC title.
