Baldwin Wallace Men's Golf Team Finishes 10th at Wittenberg Tourney

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished 10th of 16 teams at the annual Wittenberg University Fall Invitational this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3, 2010) at the Windy Knolls Golf Course in Springfield, Ohio.

Highlighting the event for the Yellow Jackets was the first round play of freshman Chris Nader (Westlake) who carded a first round 73 for the low score in a round by a BW player this fall.  BW tallied 310 team strokes in the first round and 318 in today's second and final round.  This is the final fall tournament for the Yellow Jackets.

Junior Ricky Jaskolski (Parma/ Padua Fransiscan) led the Yellow Jackets with a total of 154 strokes for the 36-hole tourney, including a four-over-par 75 in the first round.  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Matt Weiss (Mentor) shot 77 and then 78 for a 155-stroke total to place second.  Following Jaskolski and Weiss were Nader and junior Kyle Lewis (Riverside, Calif/ Riverside Poly) each had 156, senior Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) had 157, sophomore Stephen Spalding (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) had 164 and junior Matt Warren (Copley) and junior Scott Rosenau (Amherst/ Steele) each had 170.

In five fall tournaments, Spalding led the team in stroke average by averaging 76.00 strokes per 18 holes in all five tournaments and nine total rounds of 18 holes. Routhieaux ranked second at 77.63 and Jaskolski was third at 78.11. The trio was followed by Weiss at 80.67, Nader at 81.07, Lewis at 81.14 and Rosneau at 86.73.

As a team, BW had a 25-24 record with a 312.44 stroke average with a best-round of 306 during the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Invitational Tournament, hosted by John Carroll University at the Fowlers Mills Golf Course in Chesterland. The best team finish was a second place of six-team showing at JCU Invitational on September 5.

The Yellow Jackets are now idle until March when they will head south on their annual spring break trip and then play in five northern tournaments, including the 2011 OAC Championship Tournament.  The winner of the OAC Tournament earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
