BW Men's Golf Team Finishes Tied for Third at the 2010 OAC Championship Tournament

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished tied for third of nine teams at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Tournament (Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1) hosted by Mount Union College at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance, Ohio.

BW totaled 305 strokes on the second day, and combined with its first day total of 315 strokes on the par-72 and 6,694-yard Tannenhauf layout, equaled 620 to tie Ohio Northern University (309-311=620) for third. Defending champion Otterbein College captured its second straight title with rounds of 298 and 302 for a two-day and 36-hole total of 600 strokes.  The Cardinals receive the OAC's automatic berth into the 2010 NCAA Division III National Tournament.  Host Mt. Union had the best round today with a tourney-best 297.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior three-time All-OAC player Nick Bryan (Zanesville/ Rosecrans), who carded rounds of 76 and 71 for a two-day total of 147 strokes to place third individually.  Bryan's 71 on the second day was his best round this spring.

Following Bryan were junior Matt Weiss (Mentor), who had rounds of 79 and 76 for a 155 total and tied with sophomore Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan), who had rounds of 77 and 78; and senior Mike Falk (Strongsville) and freshman Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) had identical scores of 163 and rounds of 83 and 80. Jaskolski's first round 77 tied his best round this spring.

In addition to placing tied for third at the OAC Tournament, BW finished third during the OAC regular season, which included its 54-hole fall invitational and 54-hole spring invitational tournaments.

For the total 10-tournament and 21-round men's golf spring season, Bryan led the team in stroke average at 76.54 and was followed by Weiss at 77.31, Jaskolski at 79.69 and both Falk and Spalding averaged 80.00 strokes per round.  Weiss also set a BW school-record by carding a 68 on the first day of The College of Wooster Nye Intercollegiate Tournament on the par-72 and 6,454-yard Wooster Country Club layout.  In addition, Bryan and Falk now graduate as two of the most prolific men's golfers in BW history -- Bryan, arguably the most prolific.
