BW Men's Golf Team Competes on Day One of Nye Intercollegiate; Weiss Shoots Career-Best Round

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team shot an opening-round 301 to rank second of 15 teams on day one (Friday, April 23) of the 2010 Nye Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Wooster at Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio. The second and final day of the tournament begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

Yellow Jacket junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Matt Weiss (Concord/Mentor) shot a career-best round of 68 and trails first round leader Ben Smith of Malone University by one stroke on the par-72 and 6,454 Wooster C.C. layout.  Weiss is seeking to win his second straight Nye Intercollegiate medalist award. He won that honor last season as a sophomore when he fired consecutive rounds of 76 for a two-day and 36-hole total of 152 strokes.

In addition, senior Nick Bryan (Zanesville/Rosecrans) was second for BW at 75. Freshman Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) shot 77 and senior Mike Falk (Strongsville) rounded out the scoring at 81. Sophomore Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/Parma Padua Franciscan) was fifth for the Jackets at 83.

Following tomorrow's round, the Yellow Jackets are back in action at the 2010 OAC Championship Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 30-May 1, at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance, Ohio.
