BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished in fourth place out of 11 teams on the second day of the two-day and 36-hole Mount Union College Fall Invitational today (Monday, September 28, 2009). The tournament was the final event of the fall season for the Yellow Jackets.
BW carded a second round total of 313 strokes to finish at 610 strokes (297-313) for 36-holes on the 6,411-yard, par-70 Alliance C.C. layout. Yesterdays round was played Tannenhauf G.C. in Alliance. John Carroll University won the team title with a score of 597 and JCU's Blake Ferguson took medalist honors with rounds of 71 and 68 for a total of 139 strokes (-3).
Individually for the Yellow Jackets, senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Nick Bryan (Zanesville/ Rosecrans) led the way as he carded a 76 for a total of 147 (+5) to place tied for third as an individual among 85 total competitors. He was followed by junior Matt Weiss (Concord/Mentor),who is this week's OAC Men's Golfer of the Week, with a 153 (76-77) and freshman Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) who carded a 36-hole total of 154 strokes (78-76). Also for BW, senior All-OAC player Mike Falk (Strongsville) had an 85 for a total of 157 and sophomore Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Padua Franciscan) golfed an 84 for a two-day stroke total of 162.
In addition and playing as individuals, senior Cory Swaisgood (Fremont/ St. Joseph Central Catholic) had a 157 (77-80), junior Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) shot his second consecutive round of 79 for a total of 158, sophomore Kyle Lewis (Riverside, Calif./ Riverside Poly) had a 164 (78-86), freshman Connor Cronkite (Fairview, Pa./ Erie Cathedral Prep) carded a 165 (80-85) and sophomore Chris Juszczak (East Liverpool) shot a 36-hole total of 167 (83-84).
