BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team shot a second round 310 for a two-day total of 628 to win the Nye Intercollegiate today (Sunday, April 26, 2009). The tournament was hosted by The College of Wooster at Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio. BW was led by sophomore Matt Weiss (Concord Township/Mentor), who fired his second consecutive round of 76 for a two-day total of 152 to earn first place as an individual on the par-72, 6,454 yard layout.
The Yellow Jackets finished first of nine schools, 19 shots clear of second place Otterbein College.
Weiss was followed by junior All-OAC player Mike Falk (Strongsville) who shot a 76, for a total of 153, good for second as an individual. Junior All-OAC player Nick Bryan (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans) carded a 79 for a total of 159, while junior Cory Swaisgood (Fremont/ St. Joseph Central Catholic) finished the day with tournament with 167 strokes (88-79). In addition, junior Tom Jesko (Salem/Senior) followed up his 85 yesterday with an 84 today for a total of 169.
Competing as individuals, sophomore Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) carded an 82, for a two-day total of 166, freshman Kyle Lewis (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) shot consecutive rounds of 88 for a total of 176 and freshman Chris Juszczak (East Liverpool) shot an 88 on day two for a total of 179.
The Yellow Jackets will be in action next this Thursday and Friday (April 30th and May 1st) at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Otterbein College at New Albany Country Club in New Albany. BW tees off at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
