BW Men's Golf Team Concludes Fall Season with Third Place Finish at the Muskingum Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team concluded its fall season today (Monday, October 6, 2008) with a third place finish out of six teams at the two-day and 36-hole Muskingum Invitational Tournament at Eagle Sticks Golf Club in South Zanesville, Ohio.  Six BW players tied or set a new season-low round in the tournament.

On the first day of action, the Yellow Jackets shot a season-low 284.  In the second round, BW tallied 301 to finish with 588 total strokes on the par-70 and 6,508-yard course.

Individually, junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Nick Bryan (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans) recorded a season-best 69 round one and shot a second-round 76 to lead the way with 145 total strokes.  Freshman Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan) also recorded a season-best 72 in the first round of action and carded a 73 for a 145.  Both Byran and Jaskolski tied for fourth place overall.  Sophomore Matt Weiss (Concord/ Mentor) also bested his previous season-low with a 71 in the first round and followed that up with a 77 for 148 total strokes, good for tenth place overall. Sophomore Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area) was the fourth player to record a season-best with a 72 in the first round, which bested his previous best mark by three strokes, and shot a 77 in the second round for 148 total strokes.  Junior Cory Swaisgood (Fremont/ St. Joseph's Centeal Catholic), not to be outdone by his teammates, shot a 80 in the first round, but a 75 in the second, which was one stroke under his previous season-low.

In addition and playing as individuals at Muskingum, freshman Chris Juszczak (East Liverpool) shot a first-round 78 and a second-round 79 to tally 157 total strokes.  Junior Tom Jesko (Salem/ Senior) shot an 86 and a 77 to tie his season-best round and totalled 163 strokes.  Freshman Kyle Lewis (Riverside, Calif./ Riverside Poly) recorded a season-best 80 strokes in the first round and an 89 in the second round for a total of 169.

For the fall schedule, Bryan led with a team-low 820 total strokes and a per-round average of 74.55.  Overall, the team totaled 3,331 total strokes and a 302.81 strokes per round average.

The Yellow Jacket Men's Golf season is split between an abbreviated fall schedule and an extended spring schedule.  The spring season will include seven tournaments and will begin on March 27-28 at the Muskingum College Invitational Tournament.
